Insight Specification of D500 Features

1. DX-flagship’s 4K video recording

Nikon D500 has a remarkable capability of recording cinematic 4K UHD (3840 × 2160)/30p/25p/24p as well as 1080/60p video for up to 29 min and 59sec. The videos can also be recorded in Full HD or HD mode. Vibration reduction features reduces the chances of screen tilt or shaking in any directions while recording during moving but it might reduce image area.

2. WiFi and Bluetooth connections

Nikon D500 allows the transfer of stored data wirelessly to your mobile or computer devices via WiFi or Bluetooth transfer.

3. Built-in SnapBridge

Nikon has been announcing the launch of built-in SnapBridge software which is basically a virtual portal to connect your iOS and android device with the camera for the purpose of data transfer Via Bluetooth. However, the app initially seemed poorly developed but now updates are being made.

4.Touchable and tilting LCD display

Nikon D500 has a high-resolution touch-screen display. The viewfinder gets 1x magnification (up from .94x) and has a built-in shutter and incorporated metering device but reduces the eye reception of surrounding data. rear LCD is upgraded from 920k dot 3” (D300s) to a whopping 2.36m dot 3.2” which has boosted the VGA to XVGA type. Touch sensors have been implemented in screen for data entry, image review, and touch-by-focus or touch white balance in Live View but not for the menu selection.

5. Autofocus Makeover

Autofocus sensors have got 153 detection areas which almost fill the DX frame. Autofocus also its own dedicated CPU mirror. The blackout time has been reduced so you can get more recording type during fast shooting. The central sensor of autofocus can focus at -4EV- another upgrade.

6. New controllers

D500 has got a new addition of thumbstick controller for autofocus operation as well as Fn2 and ISO buttons. The rest of the controls and buttons are same as that of D5. Cheese shuffle is the dominant selection with an ISO button behind the shutter release. Also the red recording button can be modified to function as an exposure mode button.

7. SB-5000 flashlight system

Nikon D500 does not have a built-in flash. Instead, Nikon has introduced a new radio controlled flash system- SB5000. A WR-10 and WR-T10 are now used as a preferred pair when it comes to remote controlling of external flashlight. Previously, a WR-10 with a 10-pin connector was required to perform this function.

8.  Light-weight, water-proof and durable body

Nikon has used carbon fiber for the construction of front and shutterbox. Carbon-fiber is relatively lightly than the metal encasing previously used for Nikon DSLRs. Moreover, the body is sleek and easy-to-handle and offers a great deal of sweat, water and weather resistance. Magnesium alloy is used in top and rear frames.

9. Cards and Buffers

A built-in CMOS sensor made by SONY sends data to an EXPEED5 image processor. XQD and UHS-2 type SD cards can be inserted in Nikon D500. It has dual card slots and has the capacity of 200 raw JPEGS and 18 NEFs.

10. Fast DX shooting

Fast DX shooting capability of capturing even the slightest movement during swimming and other sports is what makes Nikon D500 an amazing sports and fast shooting camera. Shoots done at high ISOs like 52,000 look great with it.

11. Auto-white balance

This amazing DSLR camera is very much suitable for shooting under artificial light. It has a built-in automatic capability of white-light correction coming from tube lights and incandescent bulbs- making the images looks less noisy and more accurate. It is done through 3 auto levels to maintain the warmth of incoming light i.e AUTO 0, AUTO 1 and AUTO 2.

12. Silent shutter

As compared to older DSLR versions from Nikon which had a loud shutter noise, Nikon D500 has an electronically operated, silent front curtain shutter. Drawback is that it only works with the Mirror-up mode.

13. Built-in Microphone, headphone and HDMI ports

Microphone port enables the fine audio recording during visual recording. Built in Stereo Microphone and Linear PCM recording is possible. The USB ports and HDMI ports allow the external connection of camera to your devices for image transfer.

14. Still shooting

D500 has another amazing feature of clicking stills while video recording. Unfortunately, the video recording stops after taking a still- making the feature very messy.

Nikon D500 has some of the many amazing innovations yet the manufacturers still have got a lot to fix about it. Some fixes have been made in the past years. It is a pro-camera and I’ll recommend it to everyone out there who is passionate about doing photography during travelling, wild-life recordings and sports coverage.
